2019 - Chicago-born Ibn Jasper wants to make sure today’s kids know Dr. J. That would be Julius Erving, the first basketball player to dunk from the foul line, known for his free-flowing play as well as for wearing Only registered users can see links on this board! First released in 1976, the Pro Leather debuted as the lightest and most durable performance basketball shoe on the market. Highlighted by the Only registered users can see links on this board! Subsequent reissues have cemented the silhouette's stature in hoop-shoe canon, and given it standing in fashion and skate circles alike.
“This particular collaboration means a lot to me since I was born in the '70s and grew up in the '80s watching all of the great NBA players like Dr.J.,” says Jasper. “The aesthetic is based on a photo of Dr. J. walking into the arena with an all-white outfit. He looks like he just stepped off of the runway. I thought to myself: ‘How can I distill this image and Only registered users can see links on this board! The statuesque white serves a secondary purpose too. Jasper’s intent is to channel Erving’s sophisticated style into a trophy that pays homage to the high-flying player’s individual legacy and broad impact on the game. Roman numeral embossing adds to this vibe, granting historical weight to a contemporary design accentuated by a zippered tongue. 2019 - The LeBron James x John Elliott Icon QS originates from the collaborative partnership between James, Elliott and Nike. Tipped off by an exclusive LeBron Soldier X in 2016, and crystalized with a fully formed collection featuring the Icon QS in 2018, the three-part collaboration focuses attention on creating versatile pieces that work in a range of environments, from business meetings to travel. The tan colorway of the Icon QS arrives October 9. Nike and New York-based pioneering denim house 3x1 share many commonalities. Most obviously, the two have neighboring outposts on Soho's Mercer street. Beyond, 3x1 founder Scott Morrison has been a friend of the Nike brand for almost two decades, a camaraderie based on a shared belief in innovation, personalization and transparency.
In partnership, the two have dedicated attention to two iconic products: the Nike Air Force 1 and the 5-pocket jean. This is realized as a trio of Air Force Ones dressed in different denims — black, Only registered users can see links on this board! 3x1 has championed selvedge denim since its opening eight years ago, and for the Nike x 3x1 AF1, the company created two fabrics with Japan's renowned Kuroki mill. Both carry a special Bowerman Orange selvedge ID, differentiating this denim from any other and celebrating Nike's co-founder, Bill Bowerman. Unique washes for the fabrics were developed in Los Angeles and from three distinct looks: a light vintage-inspired stonewash with marbling, a medium vintage stonewash with marbling and a washed black. The raw indigo AF1 uses the back-side of the fabric (the lighter weft side) for contrast. |
